Winter intercession

Brainstorm ways to prevent Law students from dropping winter intercession courses on their own. December 1 (tentative) is the last day they can receive 100% refund; after that point, 0% refund. It’s rare for students to get Ws. Possible creation of new part of term for winter intercession to prevent students from dropping on their own (maybe not include DW drop code).

Solution: Create new PoT - Law Intercession

Colette suggested exploring Canvas - use rules in the gradebook. Run curve before entering courses in Banner.

Workflow for writing requirements

Student completes a form, attaches document, submit. Email notification to instructor and approves/denies. Auto-email to Academic Services who then adds it to SHATCKN.

Solution: Ellucian Workflow could be an option.

Colette also suggested BDM and Canvas or maybe SOATEST-DegreeWorks.

Prevent joint JD student from enrolling

Example: MBA-JD - Allow them to register for MBA courses, but prevent them from registering from JD courses until Law School opens registration, which starts later.

7-15 all joint degree students each semester.

Solution: Restrict Law courses to priority 10 program

Del to also request report from BIA listing courses and their restrictions.

Deferred to next meeting:

  • Track courses taught online based on sessions (On Sept 9th was taught on zoom)

  • A way to make sure no students are missing from Rank; rankings and transcript release

Curve course checker - faculty don’t usually enter grades in Canvas, but it’s still on the table. They have a handful of courses with only one grade.

Intercession part of term dates have been built out.

Rank

Grad grades for Saturday following the last final exam.

Saturday and Sunday: checking curves, missing grades.

Monday - make sure all grades have been received. Need to refine report to indicate whether or not sections have been rolled.

Send emails to request run rank on Monday. Once rank is run, Del uses a checklist.

Tuesday - faculty vote on academic awards (based on Monday report).

Students have up till graduation for grade appeals, so faculty need time after graduation to review it.

Ideal to run rank 1-2 weeks after commencement.

Excluding students from rank

How to prevent JD students from having transcripts release but not jam up other students. We proposed to use the SO record as the trigger to add hold. Also need a job to remove them - we currently have batch hold job. Steph D to figure out when this can happen.

Law needs to make sure all students are included at the time of the job and not added after.

Term, Cum, Year, Graduation ranks each gives 3 lists: rank/exceptions/log

  • Based on SGASADD attribute (classification)

Stephanie will tap IT to see if one of their developers to meet with Del and Stephanie to modify the ranking jobs.

Tracking courses

Zoom administrator would be able to help this. Can this be indicated in Banner? Not sure - have to ask Ellucian rep.
