Question: Does SGAAVRL have to be set up to use SGPADVA?

Molly’s response:

Just ran through the process with a manual popsel to check just in case but it did confirm my suspicions – you have to have rules defined on SGAAVRL in order to use SGPADVA. Here's the error message I get after running the process without any active rules on SGAAVRL:

*ERROR* Advisors Assignment rules should be defined on the Advisors Assignment Rules page (SGAAVRL). please define rules to assign advisors using rules.

So my as-simple-as-possible workaround would be to create a really simple rule on SGAAVRL that has nothing past effective term filled out, the advisor on the bottom half of the page, and then run with a pop sel of particular students. The trick here though would be you'd have to write one "rule," run SGPADVA, come back to SGAAVRL, delete the advisor and put in the next one, and then run SGPADVA again, etc... I don't think it would actually take up too much time, it's just a little back and forth. For example:

(note that the only active rule is rule 6, which is my example for you)

And it did work as I'd hoped, so perhaps as much of a basic workaround as possible for your work with popsels until you get the page built out!
