Setting up access and using the departmental email
This method should be used only if the account has been created before accessing it using usernames and passwords.
Accessing the email account
*If you are accessing the dept account from the desktop app and it is asking for password, do this:
Go to File
Select Account Settings
Select Account Settings again
If you see Dept account listed under your primary acct, please remove it by selecting Remove and hit ok or yes from next prompt
Double click on your primary account
From here you will need to drag the cursor to all and uncheck the cache offline settings box and hit ok
Close out of outlook and re-open (It should not ask for password again)
Setting up your access
Windows Outlook Desktop Client
The Account should show up automatically on the left side in the "Folder Pane". This usually takes a while to show up.
OS X (Mac) Outlook Desktop Client
Select "Tools" from the top bar
Select "Accounts" from the drop down menu
Click "Delegation and Sharing"
Click the "Shared With Me" tab
Hit the "+" sign in the bottom section under "Open these additional mailboxes:"
Enter the username "<username>" and hit "add". It does not need the wave on it. Click "Done"
Access through your Tulane web mail interface
Log into your Tulane webmail at https://outlook.com/tulane.edu
Click the circle in the top right corner. This either has your Initials or your Tulane photo.
Select "Open another mailbox"
Enter the username "<username>@tulane.edu" and open. This should open a new webmail window with the email account.
Changing cache settings
**Also to make sure that you grab everything from Microsoft's server. Please follow these steps to change cache settings:**
Within Outlook, go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
Go to the E-mail tab, then double click your primary account > i.e. "Your userid".
Drag the cursor to ALL and then uncheck the "Offline Cached Mode"
Then Next/Finish out of this dialog box. Close out of outlook and reopen
Sending mail
To send mail as user@tulane.edu:
Open Outlook. Choose New Email. If you don't see the From field at the top of your message, choose Options > From.
Click From in the message and change to the shared email address .If you don't see your shared email address, choose Other email address and then type in the shared email address.
Choose OK. Finish typing your message and then choose Send.
ID numbers should never be released via ticket, phone, or email. Students can access their ID numbers via Gibson. Students needing ID numbers for transcript orders can enter their SSN or 9 0's in the ID number field.
