Understanding course-level restrictions

Restrictions on existing courses are not located in the CIM Course Proposal form currently.

Restrictions live in Banner in SCARRES screen and you have to look at multiple tabs in SCARRES to see all the restrictions on a course.

Undergraduate courses are automatically restricted to only allow undergraduates, and vice versa for graduate courses when courses are pushed into Banner via the CIM system.

When new or edited courses are proposed with desired additional course restrictions such as class level (FR/SO exclusions), major, school, etc. proposers can indicate restrictions in the “restrictions” area of the form toward the bottom of the form.

When the proposal reaches the Registrar, the SCARRES screen is manually updated with approved restrictions.

Here is a screenshot of this section of the CIM Course Proposal form.
