Inactivating courses or programs in CIM
Locate the course/program in CIM
Navigate to Course Inventory Management in CIM (or Program Management if working on a major, minor or certificate)
Search for the course code (e.g., FAMY 3006) or program title
TIP: search conventions detailed at the top of the page (screenshot below) make for easier navigation if you are uncertain of the full course or program title
Inactivate the course/program
Click red “Inactivate” button.
A new window will open requesting the term by which this change is effective, alongside a justification for the inactivation. Complete both fields.
Note that the justification will be visible to individuals downstream in the CIM Workflow.
Start the workflow
Click the green “Start Workflow” button at the bottom right of this window to submit course/program inactivation for approval.
CIM Workflow will include a step for department chair approval before course is officially inactivated.
It is best practice to confirm with the Registrar’s Office the chairpeople for your course or program’s department. This will help ensure a smooth and accurate workflow process.
Important considerations about inactivating courses:
When you inactivate courses, you will also need to remove the inactivated courses from the majors and minors that reference them via the program form https://nextcatalog.tulane.edu/programadmin/.
When you are inactivating the course, pay attention to the course’s “ecosystem” because this will tell you where the course is referenced in the CIM Program forms.
In the CIM Program form, find the major in question in the question and click the Green “Edit Program” Button.
From there, fill in the required fields and enter an appropriate justification for the change (e.g. removing inactive courses).
In the requirements section, find the course(s) in question and remove it/them from the course list table by double clicking on the course list table in the blue box and then clicking on the course(s) and selecting the left arrow button.
Attach any updated/appropriate program-related documents (e.g. the updated assessment plan, if there is one, and any addendum materials) and submit to workflow.
