Assigning advisors in mass (SGPADVA)

Before you begin

You will need:

1. A list of all students for each advisor.

2. Each advisor’s TU ID.

3. Each advisor should be indicated as an advisor on SIAINST.

4. Upload all lists using Loading IDs from a .csv for bulk processing (GJAJFLU/GJAPCTL/GJRPSIM/GLAEXTR)

Identify/create rules in SGAAVRL

We currently do not have business rules that guide how advisors should be assigned to a particular group of students. Therefore, we use manual population selections (or “popsels”) represented in the advisee lists. When business rules are developed, we may add more rules.

Because we use manual popsels, we have only one rule per Effective Term. If no rule for the effective term exists create a new rule.

Creating a new rule

In the Advisor Rules block, click Insert.

Check Active and enter the Effective Term. Save.

When business rules are developed other fields may be used in rule creation.

Advisor Information

Next block to Advisor Information.

Enter the advisor(s) TU ID and Advisor Type. If this person is the primary advisor, check off Primary Indicator box.

• If you are assigning one advisor and there are other advisors assigned to the students, the Primary Indicator box must be checked off.

• If you are assigning multiple advisors, the Primary Indicator box must be checked for one advisor.

• You can not add the same person more than once on the same rule. If you need to assign the same person as two advisor types,

In the Printer Control block, DATABASE should be the printer that displays.
