Enhancing the student registration experience with CourseLeaf PATH

Search accessible by guests and logged in users.

Can search by subject code or keyword in keyword field. Also pulls in search from course description - so, if “chemistry” is not subject code or in title, if the word is in the course description, it will show up as a hit. Can also parameterize pre-reqs or course notes.

Multiple criteria help students find what they’re looking for in addition to other options available

3 ways to filter meeting pattern

  • schedule icon - weekly calendar grid. Hover over to scrolls you down to that section, click for more info

  • create search criteria item by session (morning, afternoon, evening.

  • exclude times - set times not available for class

Instruction methods

  • information icon - publish your information to help students understand what the selections/options mean

  • integrates with catalog

book material options - range of cost for materials with a particular attribute - info menu allows us to define what those options mean

academic communities with their own class offerings of popular courses. usually managed by section number, but PATH gives the name that makes the most sense. That search is searching based on section number.

Exclusion criteria - exclude courses with pre-reqs for example

can pull at section level (for special topics)

Planning/Advising

Use DW scribe in PATH- imagine this as my program

program requirements - taken scribe from DW and built easy to understand rendering of requirements

courses being offering are linked

Registration

primary - all courses registered and any courses in cart not registered

registration pre-flight checks for pre-reqs, etc.

refresh happens every 10 seconds once registration opens (uses Banner APIs and some integration packages from CL and looking to move to Ethos)

they’ll see restrictions when they add the course to their cart

advisors can impersonate students

permissions/override reading from Banner

connecting advisor to student in path based on Banner. can set up people to roles to manage permissions and they use manage permissions screen. once approved, it processes it to banner and can be seen by student in path.

can accommodate swaps. adds first then drops - how does this work with max hours.
