TU uses two methods of adding transfer coursework to a student’s record: via the transfer articulation process and by adding to SHATRNS. The SHATRNS method is approved by exception only.

High level view

  1. Identify previously articulated dual enrollment courses

  2. If not already in Banner, a new institution should be created

  3. An institution must be set up as one from which TU accepts transfer work

  4. Enter transfer coursework equivalencies for the institution

  5. Articulate the student’s transfer coursework

  6. If needed, add the RTDE attribute to previously articulated dual enrollment courses

Distribution of responsibilities

Depending on the student population, parts of the transfer articulation process are distributed as follows:

Registrar (confirmed 5/31/22)

Once NTC is trained, the Registrar will no longer do this.

    About Spring Scholars

Spring Scholars are those who applied for fall, but were offered admission for the following spring.

    Expand
titleDivision of TA responsibilities for Spring Scholars

In the fall prior to their spring start, Spring Scholars choose from:

    • Participate in a study abroad experience through a partner institution (John Cabot University).

      • Students can only choose courses from a list of courses previously approved/articulated.

      • Transfer Articulation (Sarah Casbergue) keeps track of these equivalencies and provides lists to NTC Advising.

      • When the transcript arrives, NTC Advising adds the coursework.

    • Take courses at a domestic institution as a visiting student.

      • Students are encouraged to submit course syllabi to Transfer Articulation so that Sarah can identify how the courses will transfer to TU.

      • Sarah reviews and posts applicable coursework in SHATAEQ with grades of IP. The coursework is articulated but not rolled.

      • When the transcript arrives, NTC finishes the process which includes grading and rolling coursework.

      • If Sarah doesn’t receive syllabi, advising handles the whole process when the transcript arrives.

    • Take the fall semester off or pursue another non-academic opportunity.

titleAmerican Council on Education (ACE) coursework

The American Council on Education (ACE) provides recommendations for applying non-credit training to academic programs.

We require a transcript from the organization that offered the training, and not the credit recommendation from ACE, in order to post the credit.

    Exceptions

The following programs/offices do not use articulation, but rather enter coursework in SHATRNS:

    • MD/MPH

    • SPHTM
