Before appearing as an option in CLSS, instructors must be added in Banner in SIAINST.

There are some details missing of what needs to happen on the HR side before we can do this in Banner.

Other than the traditional instructor of a course, other instructor types include:

  • Teaching assistants

  • Department admins who need to enter grades

For adjuncts/new instructors, check SPAIDEN’s Biographical tab > More Information to make sure the individual is “work active” (WA).

For TAs, verify the individual is an active student in a graduate program for the term they will be teaching.

In SIAINST, type in the instructor’s TU ID and effective Term. Go.

Fill in the following:

  • Status: A (Active)

  • Check the Faculty box

  • Select the Category

    • TASST: Teaching Assistants (TAs)

    • COORD: Coordinator - admins who need to enter grades

  • Save

An overnight refresh is required before the individual will be available in CLSS.

ROTC instructors

These instructors are affiliates and don’t go through HR for hiring. Asia West, ROTC Executive Secretary, will contact us to set these instructors up in Banner so that she can assign them to classes in CLSS.

  1. In SPAIDEN > Biographical tab > More Information, enter WA in the Job Status field. Save.

  2. In SIAINST, select Faculty and Advisor. In Category, select ADJCT. Save.

  3. Add as instructor in SSASECT.

Affiliates (or dept admins) should also complete an Affiliate Tulane Account Request form and submit to IT via accounts@tulane.edu with a member of the Class Scheduling team copied so they can get an email address, etc. from IT and set up as instructors in Banner. The should also upload the completed form as an attachment to the incident.

Here are instructions that can be sent:

  1. Complete an Affiliate Tulane Account Request form and submit it to IT via accounts@tulane.edu.

  2. Open an incident with the following:

    1. Instructor's name and TU ID number

    2. Upload the completed Affiliate Tulane Account Request form to the incident. (To clarify, you'll need to complete the form and send it to IT AND send it to us via incident.)

    3. Ask us to make them work active and to set him up as an adjunct instructor in Banner.

    4. Depending on the time of year, it may make more sense for us to add them as the instructor on the course in Banner rather than having the dept scheduler do it in CLSS. If we need to add them to classes, please tell us the course subject and number, the section number, and the CRN they should be added to and the percentage of the responsibility. (The CRN is the 5 digit code associated with each section, which is preferred over course subject/number/section number.)
