Adding an instructor in Banner (SIAINST)
Before appearing as an option in CLSS, instructors must be added in Banner in SIAINST.
Faculty paid via Tulane HR payroll automatically feed into Banner, so no manual intervention in Banner is required. Affiliate instructors must be entered manually. The Registrar’s Office is a “stop” on the affiliate employee workflow via a ServiceNow task, which is a request to enable the Faculty tab. Denise Kidd receives these and updates within 1-2 business days.
Other than the traditional instructor of a course, other instructor types include:
Teaching assistants
Department admins who need to enter grades
For adjuncts/new instructors, check SPAIDEN’s Biographical tab > More Information to make sure the individual is “work active” (WA). See also: Enabling the Staff tab in Gibson for affiliate employees
For TAs, verify the individual is an active student in a graduate program for the term they will be teaching.
In SIAINST, type in the instructor’s TU ID and effective Term. Go.
If the Term entered in the key block DOES NOT match the term in the From Term field, you must click the Maintenance button to make changes. If the key block Term matches the From Term, you can make changes directly.
Fill in the following:
Status: A (Active)
Check the Faculty box
Select the Category
TASST: Teaching Assistants (TAs)
COORD: Coordinator - admins who need to enter grades
ADJCT: ROTC instructors
Save
An overnight refresh is required before the individual will be available in CLSS.

All Category values from STVFCTG
ID numbers should never be released via ticket, phone, or email. Students can access their ID numbers via Gibson. Students needing ID numbers for transcript orders can enter their SSN or 9 0's in the ID number field.
