Bridge is preferred over Canvas because it’s built for compliance rather than an academic course.

There are a few different FERPA trainings in Bridge - good opportunity to clean up before creating our new program.

In Bridge there are “courses” and “programs”. If we want to pull the assessment out of the FERPA AACRAO training, the SCORM file would be a course and the assessment would be its own course, thereby creating a program.

External assessment

Blaine isn’t sure if we can see what questions are missed. But, we can see who accessed it and who passed/failed. Not different from keeping the assessment within the SCORM file.

Possible flow

New employee submits Banner request > we add that person to the Bridge course > we send them an email with a link to the course > when complete, they can send their certificate, which triggers Banner account creation.

Blaine mentioned we can use an automatic feed, but I’m not sure that’s necessary, but Colette’s expertise as access grantor would best inform. Because not all staff need Banner accounts/training, it doesn’t make sense to auto-enroll based on a feed of all new staff, for example. Staff who may not need Banner access may still need FERPA training based on the type of interaction they have with records.

Side bar: Is there anything in the HR paperwork that would indicate if the role accesses student records?

But, the automatic feed may make sense for faculty because anyone in a faculty role needs to understand their role in upholding FERPA.

Student employee access to student records

For interns/student workers, do we have them do training in Bridge?

I saw something in Bridge (during Blaine’s demo, I need to take another look) for RO interns, but I’m not sure if we’re currently using it in the intern onboarding.

Also, do we need to create guidelines/resources/training for other student workers who might need Banner access or otherwise access student records?
