Adding the advisor role in Banner allows the Advisor tab to appear in Gibson. The advisor role is added by the Registrar’s Office on an ad hoc basis based on a user’s needs. The advisor role also gives access to Degree Works.
The advisor role is maintained in SIAINST. Enter the user’s ID number and effective term (usually the current term).
2. In order to have the Advisor tab appear, the advisor must be assigned an advisee. We use one of the Banner test students, usually 222002222. Adding an advisor to a student record is done in SGAADVR.
a. Enter the student’s ID number and term. Next block.
b. Enter the advisor’s ID number and tab. The advisor type is ACAD. If the advisor is primary, indicate by checking the respective Primary Indicator box. Save.
Once the advisor adds himself to each of his students, they will show up in their list of advisees in the Advisor tab in Gibson.
