Submitting a request to post advanced standing credit

Advanced standing credit is credit applied to a student’s record based on their prior experience. This article describes advanced standing credit and how to request posting of advanced standing credit on a student’s record.

Certain schools have been approved to post advanced standing credit:

  • Architecture (M.Arch - ARCH 8000-level courses)

  • Business (MGMT 7002)

  • Social Work (MSW - SOWK 6670)

  • Public Health and Tropical Medicine (SPHL 68xx courses)

  • School of Professional Advancement (Emergency and Security Studies - ESSC 6000-level course)

If your program is not listed above, please contact Sarah Montès (smontes@tulane.edu) to discuss options for implementing advanced standing credit.

Advanced standing credit is evaluated by the academic department and not the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar’s Office can administratively post credits that have been evaluated and approved by the academic department first. All approved courses and credits must be submitted for each student; we cannot accept blanket statements of credit posting.

Create the Sections

Academic departments must first request that sections be created for the specific term in which credit will be posted. The section information is always static for advanced standing credit, meaning tuition and fees are waived, and the credit will post on the transcript as CR.

Registering the students

In order for advanced standing credit to be posted, the academic department must submit a Registrar Support Form with the advanced standing credit template spreadsheet that includes the following information for each approved course:

  • Student Name

  • Student ID

  • Term

  • Subject Code

  • Course Number

  • Credit Hours

Please note: The credit must be posted in a term where the student has enrollment, typically their first enrolled term at Tulane.
