Reading degree audit blocks

Block header

The Degree Works audit is organized into multiple sections called blocks. At the top of each block is a header that summarizes the requirements specific to that block. These include credits required to fulfill the block’s specific requirements, credits applied within the block, the catalog term driving the block logic, the block GPA, and other messaging.

Blocks can collapse and expand individually or all together by using the arrow at the top right corner of each block or the collapse/expand all arrow above the Degree Block.  Sometimes it is helpful to collapse all blocks, then expand only the one you wish to view.

When all requirements for the block have been met, the block header will be labeled “Complete.”  Blocks will be marked “Incomplete” until all requirements have been fulfilled, as in the image above.


Block body

The body of a block is made up of two main components: requirements and course information.  Blocks may also include conditions such as minimum GPA, minimum upper-level credits, and credits in residency.

  • Blocks are composed of a list of requirements necessary to complete the block.

  • Requirements are listed on the right-hand side of the block.

  • A requirement number is included within pipe brackets to easily reference the requirement within a block.  Please include the requirement information when submitting an exception.

  • Advice is provided as guidance, based on the University's catalog, for fulfilling a requirement.

  • More than one course may be needed to satisfy a single requirement. This will be indicated in the advice.

  • A checkbox listed next to a course in the advice indicates that the course has a prerequisite.

  • The @ symbol is a wildcard.  For instance, if the advice says “2 Classes in HIST 4@”, two history classes at the 4000-level must be taken to satisfy the requirement.

  • Some courses listed in the advice may not be offered in the current semester (or a future semester).

  • Clicking on a specific course in the advice will open a pop-up window with detailed information about that course, including a description (if available), pre-requisites, and possible future sections.

  • Completed coursework that fulfills a requirement will be listed to the right of the specific requirement, along with information about when the course was taken, the final grade, and number of credits earned. 

  • In-progress courses are designated IP, and are shown in the audit next to the requirement they will fulfill once the student successfully completes the course.

  • If a block is “Undeclared” it will reflect requirements listed in the most recent catalog term. 

  • Note that the Tulane Schedule of Classes has accurate, up-to-date information regarding sections and seat availability.

Additional coursework blocks

 

Other courses applying to degree 

Any course that does not fit into a requirement in a student’s audit, but still counts toward the degree, will appear in this block. Often zero-credit courses and labs will show in this section. 

Not counted

Courses that do not count toward the degree will appear in this section. NTC students who exceed the maximum 9 credits of non-NTC coursework will find the excess coursework in this section. Consult with an academic advisor with questions regarding why a course may not be counting toward a degree. 

Insufficient 

Courses that are deemed insufficient will appear in this bucket. These include withdrawn, failed, non-repeatable, audited, and other courses that may not count as earned credit hours.
