DRAFT: Entering a joint degree credit placeholder for the JD program
Policy
Effective Fall 2027, the academic catalog reflects clarification on how credit completed in joint degree programs with the Law School from the other division applies to the JD.
In the case of all joint degree programs other than the JD/MACCT, the Law School agrees to count 9 semester hours of courses from the core curriculum of the other degree-granting division towards its requirements. In the case of the JD/MACCT, the Law School counts 6 hours of accounting curriculum towards the law degree. These hours counted from other degree-granting divisions will be reflected on the Law School transcript but excluded from the student's GPA.
Decision
To effectively apply the extra-divisional coursework to the JD, the Office of the University Registrar created a placeholder course, LAWS 8000: Joint Degree Credit, with variable credit (6-9 credit hours). The number of credits applied are at the discretion of the Law School. Credit should be applied to students' record not later than the beginning of the student’s final semester. See SAMPLE/DRAFT Decision note: JD joint degree credit will be applied with a placeholder course
Process
The Assistant Dean of Law Academic Services will open a support ticket with the Registrar’s Office with the following information:
Student ID
Credit hours
The Registrar’s Office will create a section of LAWS 8000 for each credit amount needed, mark each section as tuition waived, and grade entered as CR.
