Registering Nursing students in block schedules

Registering Nursing students in block schedules

Program of Nursing admits students in fall, spring, and summer. When the academic advisor sends over the list of courses and students, you’ll need to create a new block for the new cohort prior to modifying existing blocks with new courses and registration.

Upload files for bulk processing

You’ll need to upload the list of students in the new cohort and assign the block to them.

See: Loading IDs from a .csv for bulk processing (GJAJFLU/GJAPCTL/GJRPSIM/GLAEXTR/GJIREVO)

Set up the new block

STVBLCK: Create block

  • Enter code and description. Save.

Blocks are named by cohort. Cohorts are referred to by start term, and their corresponding population selection and block use the “NURXXXXXX” convention. For example, the 202520 cohort has a population selection of NUR202520 and the block is named NUR202520. Because all of the previous populations and block codes exist, you don’t need to set those up.

SSABLCK: Assign courses to blocks

Assign courses to the new and existing cohort blocks.

  • Enter term and block code. Go.

  • Enter the associated CRNs.

  • Save.

Other options for adding block codes

If the list of students is short, you can add the block code on each student’s record individually in SGASTDN (future term/not registered for term) SFAREGS (registration open/registered for term).

Alternatively, you can use SGAMSTU to add the block codes if students aren’t registered for the block’s effective term.

If any students are not registered, note these students and include the error message. Follow up with the person making the request to let them know.

*After registration, be sure to contact the academic advisor to determine if the student has dropped from the program or changed cohorts. If they’ve dropped go to the student’s record to remove the block code; if they changed cohorts, change the block code to the respective block code.
