Comparing term resignation and program resignation for graduate programs

This guidance refers to graduate certificates and Masters degrees, PhD, MD, and JD programs.

Term resignation occurs when a student drops/withdraws from all courses in a particular semester after the last day to drop with 100% refund. Students may or may not return to study after the resignation term.

Program resignation occurs when a student declares intent to no longer matriculate in their current program.

If a student decides to resign from the term after the last day to drop with 100% refund, in collaboration with the student, the school should prepare and submit the resignation form to the Registrar’s Office. Students who resign from the term through the last day to drop with 100% refund can drop all classes using the Schedule of Classes.

The Registrar’s Office does not enter program resignation in Banner, but if the student is registered for courses, a term resignation form is required. Program resignation is not stored in Banner and does not appear on the transcript.

If the student never attended and is in their first term ever at TU, once the term resignation is completed by the Registrar’s Office, the school should delete all attributes from SGASADD, advisors from SGAADVR, and the learner record in SGASTDN. Do not delete the learner record if the student attended any class at any time during the term or if they matriculated previously.
