Student Veterans Services is an office within Tulane University's Office of the Registra, that provides services to students who are eligible for VA education educational benefits. The office serves as a liaison between the student and the VA Regional Processing Office.

Basics

Students must complete TU’s mandatory VA Enrollment Verification Form every semester to access their benefits.

For calls/tickets with general inquiries about VA benefits, first question to ask is whether the student completed VA Enrollment form already.

TU VA Enrollment Verification Form (Frevvo form) can be found on Registrar website under Resources & Services > Student Veteran Services > Veterans Enrollment Form button (Location will remain the same on new Registrar website)

https://registrar.tulane.edu/student-veterans-services

For issues accessing the form, ask the student if they are enrolled in the term they want to receive benefits for.

If admitted but not yet enrolled, they won’t have access to the form. They must be enrolled in at least one course. Direct the student to register and try the form again.

If enrolled but still have access issues, ask them to use Firefox, which is the most reliable browser. Chrome is often problematic.

Questions/Concerns for the VA: Students/parents should call (888) 442-4551.

Frequently asked questions

Why did Tulane report my credit hours but zero tuition and fees?

Credit hours are reported first in order to receive the book stipend and housing/dining allowance.

VA funding for housing/dining is distributed directly to the student, our office is not involved in distributing to the student.

When will tuition be reported?

Tuition is reported by Belinda to the VA after the last day to drop classes at 100%.  Reporting tuition typically begins in September.

If I pay my bill now, will the VA send payment?

Yes, the VA will pay the tuition according to your benefits and you can be reimbursed.

What is the VA annual tuition and fee cap?

The annual tuition & fees cap for academic year 2023-2024 is $27,120.05.

Will Tulane drop me from my class if the bill isn’t paid?

Tulane doesn’t drop students from their classes because of unpaid balances.  Tulane will not allow students to register for a future semester if the balance isn’t paid by registration time.

Should I pay a portion of the bill now?

All students are required to pay housing and dining and should be paid immediately; it is not drawn from VA tuition funding.

Will I receive finance charges for unpaid balance?

Yes, you will receive finance charges but if the full amount of the unpaid balance is the responsibility of the VA, those charges will be reversed when the payment is received. This may occur in late Sept/early Oct

  • Students/parents receive a monthly reminder of outstanding tuition due; they can be assured that once VA funding comes through, the charge will be lifted.

  • IF student/parent pays for tuition in full, to avoid messages re: outstanding bill, they can be refunded when VA funding comes through.

Can you do the math to calculate my scholarships, VA $, and amount of tuition owed?

No, students have access to what scholarships they have and the amounts. It’s in their best interest to calculate their total to determine any amount owed.

Yellow Ribbon Application

  • Only students whose Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI-Bill is at the 100% qualify for Yellow Ribbon. Students know whether they have Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI-Bill at 100%.

  • Yellow Ribbon is given on a first come, first serve basis to a limited number of students which varies by school. TU schools determine the number of students and the $ amount. The funds come from the TU school.

  • Example: NTC awards 23 students – 3 for Science and Engineering, etc

  • VA does not require any institutions to provide Yellow Ribbon funds. Some universities cover all students who apply and qualify.

  • All qualified students can begin submitting their application on August 1, 2023 at 12:00am CST. (Strict cut-off time determined by Belinda, not the VA)

  • Belinda will notify students of the outcome of their application.  These funds are requested after the student has exhausted the annual VA tuition cap of $27,120.05.

  • Student must reapply each year
