Resignations are referred to by various names, depending on the department and/or situation. For Registrar purposes, we use “resignation” to describe when a student is dropping all courses within a term, down to 0 credit hours. This may be with or without record, depending on the time of year according to the academic calendar or the student’s situation. The Registrar pdf form uses the term “resignation”, whereas other departments may refer to it as a withdrawal from term, a full withdrawal, or a leave of absence. For clarity within this article, “resignation” will be used.

For Registrar purposes: one withdraws from a course, one resigns from the term.

Note

A resignation does not mean a student will be unable to return to Tulane at a later date. It is simply a resignation from the term in question.

Overview:

A retroactive resignation occurs when the Registrar drops a student from all courses within a previous term, resulting in 0 credit hours enrolled. Students are unable to make alterations to their registration after the drop deadlines set on the academic calendar and the close of term. Additionally, the OW (Online Withdrawal) hold, which is placed on all student accounts, prevents students from dropping themselves to 0 credit hours. Resignations are processed according to the dates/info provided from TU depts on the request in accordance with the academic calendar for the term/part of term.

Undergraduates:

  • UG students must contact their academic advisor to initiate a retroactive resignation

  • For NTC UGs: Students are unable to initiate the withdrawal/leave of absence request via Gibson for retroactive requests, as grades will have been posted and withdrawal/leave of absence requests via Gibson do not support processing of grade changes.

    • NTC UG retroactive resignations are submitted using a pdf Resignation Form via Registrar Support Form.

      • If grades are posted in SHATCKN for retro term, grade change requests must be submitted

      • Grade changes can be submitted using the NTC Advising Grade Change via Frevvo OR pdf Grade Change forms

  • SOPA submits their department’s resignation form through Salesforce via Registrar Support Form

    • ?Can SOPA submit a retro request using Salesforce form + grade change pdfs? or Registrar pdf? no Frevvo access right?

  • Resignation requests cannot come directly from the student. Reassign tickets created by student to their academic advisor

GR students:

  • GR must contact their GR advisor/program staff to initiate a retroactive resignation

  • SOPA submits their department’s resignation form through Salesforce via Registrar Support Form

    • ?Can SOPA submit a retro request using Salesforce form + grade change pdfs? or Registrar pdf? no Frevvo access right?

  • TU departments submit retroactive resignation requests using the pdf Resignation Form via Registrar Support Form

    • If grades are posted in SHATCKN for retro term, grade change requests must be submitted

    • Grade changes can be submitted using the NTC Advising Grade Change via Frevvo OR pdf Grade Change forms

  • Resignation requests cannot come directly from the student. Reassign tickets created by student to appropriate Dept staff
