Visa Type
Visa type is maintained in GOAINTL in the Visa tab.
To view all Visa types, click the button next to the Visa Type field.
To add a first visa select the visa type and save.
To change a visa type, delete the previous visa and add the new visa type. (Banner won’t let you add a new visa type without removing the existing record.)
When updating data, always make sure the nation and birth of citizenship and program dates exist. Check that Nation of Birth and Nation of Citizen fields are filled under the Nationality tab. If the student has not yet been admitted to a future or current term, it is okay if these fields are empty.
Nationality (Nation of Birth, Nation of Citizenship)
Nation of Birth and Nation of Citizenship are maintained in GOAINTL in the Nationality tab.
Nation of Birth and Nation of Citizen should already be in Banner for students on F1 and J1 VISAs. Verify and add if missing.
Program Duration (Program Begin and End Dates)
Program Begin and End Dates are maintained in GOASEVS in the common Data tab.
The begin date should be the first day of orientation and the end date should be the anticipated graduation dateOverview
OISS manages data on GOASEVS, while the Registrar manages data in GOAINTL and SPAIDEN. The VISA type indicated on GOAINTL should match the VISA type indicated on GOASEVS.
Because the data warehouse uses data from GOAINTL rather than GOASEVS, for reporting purposes, VISA type must be maintained on both pages.

Determine if a change should be made
To summarize, a change is needed when OISS notifies us or when the GOASEVS VISA reflects the VISA/citizenship requested.
If the student makes the request to OISS, which is the most likely starting point, OISS will let us know if a change should be made.
If the student makes the request of the Registrar, use the following flowchart to determine if a change should be made.
Make changes in GOAINTL and/or SPAIDEN
Types of changes include non-citizen VISA to US Citizen, Permanent Resident to US Citizen, Non-citizen VISA to Permanent Resident, and Non-citizen VISA to a different Non-citizen VISA.
Non-citizen VISAs are those including F-1, J-1, L-2, etc.
